This National-level examination is mandatory for candidates to qualify for teaching posts across Classes I–VIII in a wide range of institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, schools under Union Territories, along with affiliated private schools. The Minimum age limit is 18 Years and there is no maximum age limit to apply.

Central Teacher Eligibility Test

Candidates who wants to appear for the CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) must meet the educational standards set by the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education). In addition, the eligibility norms are different for Paper I (for classes I–V) and Paper II (for classes VI–VIII).

FOR PAPER- I (CLASSES 1TO 5 )

  • For Paper I (Classes 1 to 5 – Primary Level), candidates should posses one of the following qualifications: They should have passed Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks  or be studying in a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.). Those with 45% marks in Senior Secondary and a 2-year D.El.Ed. under NCTE rules (2002) are also eligible. Another option is Senior Secondary with 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.), or Senior Secondary with 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Special Education. Finally, Graduate with 50% marks and a B.Ed. degree are also allowed, as per NCTE guidelines.

FOR PAPER-II ( CLASSES 6 TO 8 )

  • For Paper II (Classes 6 to 8 – Upper Primary Level), candidates must SATISFY one of these conditions: be a Graduate with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education; or a Graduate with at least 50% marks and a two-year B.Ed.; or a graduate with 45% marks and a B.Ed. as per NCTE rules; or have Senior Secondary with 50% marks and a four-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed. or equivalent; or be a Graduate with 50% marks and a one-year B.Ed. in Special Education.
  • Students in the Final Year are also eligible for this.
